Truth and Reconciliation (Art, Writing, Social Studies)

Students spent time each day learning more about the importance of Truth and Reconciliation as well as the history of residential schools through a variety of different sources. As a whole school, each class designed leaves to place on our tree of reconciliation, expressing a meaningful statement such as "every child deserves to feel loved" and "I can show kindness by sharing with others". We also had the opportunity to listen to Elder Wilson respond to questions about knowledge keeping and the importance of retaining your language. During the video interview, students created visual mindmap notes using pictures, words and quotes to record what they found especially meaningful from Elder Wilson's message. We also continued with reading our novel study book Fatty Legs. Students found chapter 6 to be very powerful! Ask them to summarize it for you. All students participated in our discussions and activities with empathy and respect.

Tim's Camp In-School!

We had a fun week with Ben and Mario from Tim Hortons Camp for Kids! They facilitated several different activities for students to participate in, each one focusing on skills they use every day. Students then spent some time journaling about what they had learned that day. To wrap up the week, students participated in the Tim's Cup. Many students felt this was the 'peak' of the week! Ask them what they learned about communication, teamwork and patience.

Math

This week we continued on with place value work with Ms. Sera. We worked on representing numbers in a variety of different ways - standard form, word from, expanded form (and expanded notation), as well as building numbers using the place value tokens. The students worked on small groups to explore the place value tokens to build a variety of numbers. With Mrs. Barnden our students began their coordinate geometry unit! We discussed coordinates and started looking at how to plot them on coordinate grid!
