Terry Fox Run!
This Thursday we participated in our Terry Fox Run! All students did a wonderful job! Check out these photos from our semi-professional student photographer Maddi!
With the Terry Fox run being this week, we also focused on learning about Terry and his lasting legacy! We read many books about Terry and also watched a couple of videos with clips of his Marathon of Hope, which were inspiring for our students. The students then wrote paragraphs about Terry's life and what they felt made him a hero, which they edited and revised with a peer. After that, they created visual journal pages to represent Terry, which will include have good copies of their paragraphs!
Buddies
We welcomed our grade 3 buddies into our classroom to do a get to know you game! Students asked each other questions about themselves, such as what is your favorite ice cream flavor and what would you do with $100? The grade 5s did an excellent job being role models as well as ensuring that all of the younger students felt welcomed to our space.
Health
We have been reviewing the zones of regulation. On Thursday, students worked together to define the 4 zones in a group - creating a 4 square poster representing the blue, green, yellow and red zones using pictures and words. We have also been exploring different regulation strategies and discussing their effectiveness for each person. This has led to some great discussions around how some strategies such as eating a crunchy snack or listening to music work to regulate some, but not all, as well as how understanding the zones can help us to recognize when others (including our family members) are feeling dysregulated!
Library
Our students are eager to be able to sign out library books and start reading about their interests! This week we were able to go for our library orientation with Mrs. Barrowcliff. The students had a chance to explore the library space and saw many of the new books that Mrs. Barrowcliff ordered for this year! Students will start signing out books next week. They are allowed to sign out two books per week and will be bringing them home in a big plastic bag. Please do your best to transfer to and from school in the bag in order to avoid spills and damage to the books. :)
Scholastic Book Orders
This week we sent home book orders to the students who wished to look through the flyer. We will do this throughout the school year, but please know that ordering books through our classroom is completely optional! If you do choose to order books for you child, you can order online via the website: https://bookclubs.scholastic.ca/en/home Our class code is: RC155181
Have a wonderful weekend!
