From the teachers:
This week has been a busy one! We loved getting to catch up with families during conferences. If you weren't able to see us, please reach out and we can set up another time.
In Social Studies, we started our Ancient Civilizations unit, we will be studying the geography and culture of various ancient civilizations to better understand how they developed and how they impact our lives today. We worked on our note taking skills, watching videos and presentations on different parts of ancient civilizations - students are working on determining what is the most important information to record.
In math, we had out first lesson on rounding decimal numbers. Many students found this tricky and we will continue to work on this. We also completed our Coordinate Geometry SWYK (Show what you know), and started our Statistics and Graphing unit. We did review of different graph types as well as created a stem and leaf plot and discussed what data might be best displayed in one! Another important concept introduced was the mode which is the value that appears most frequently. We also practiced our math stations which are focused on practicing skills we have learned such as basic fact recall, review of topics and problem solving.
In writing, we made airplanes! We are beginning our procedural writing unit and as a challenge students were asked to make their best paper airplane and record the steps in the ways they felt best showed the steps. This also served as an introduction to our Science unit on Flight. We learned that several students have some serious airplane making skills! We are looking forward to testing them next week.
We also continued to work on our literacy stations!
J presenting her expert presentation on Animals!
Lilly presenting her expert presentation on biology!
We hope everyone has a great weekend!
