Some Guided Reading and Literacy work happening!

Social Studies
We started working on our Canadian Geography Unit. Students did a quiz to see if they could identify provinces based on their boundary lines. We also discussed what makes a community and what elements make a community! We will move forward looking at how our current world has been influenced by Ancient Societies, including the physical boundaries of Canada.

Math
This week we continued with our focus on place value and our exploration of decimals. Students worked together in partners to make comparisons between decimal numbers, and practiced using the language of 'greater than' or 'less than'. We are working with decimal numbers to the thousandths this year.

We also started doing Math Stations- Mazneen
We practiced and learned about Expanded form, standard form and word form for number - Clinton

Writing - Our grade 5s worked on their autobiography writing this week! We created plans using a graphic organizer and are working hard to follow our plans to create a piece of writing that has a logical sequence. The focus of this writing task is to organize our work into paragraphs that include topic, supporting and concluding sentences, as well as ensuring we remember to use capitalization and punctuation in the correct places. Next week we are hopeful we will be able to wrap our final paragraphs and then share our writing through peer editing groups and then a final Author's Chair!

We had a wonderful week and hope everyone enjoys Fall Break. We are looking forward to seeing everyone soon!
- Mrs. Barnden and Ms. Sera
