Literacy

Here are some lovely pictures of students hard at work reading their novel Song for a Whale during guided reading. We discussed the theme of the novel as well as the main character and what predictions we had for her.

Restart

We had a great session with Restart today. Nate and Robin talked about Conflict and how it can be uncomfortable, but necessary. They also discussed communication styles and shared a funny video from Shrek to demonstrate the different ones. We ended with a cool challenge of working together to build the tallest free standing structure using spaghetti and play dough! See the pictures below!

Math

We are finishing up our statistics unit with data collection and graph creation! Students used an online graph creator to represent their data and then created questions to pair with it. Next week we will be completing our show what you know assessment on statistics and data.

Social Studies and Writing

Students worked on their postcards written from the perspective of someone living in an ancient civilization. They were asked to consider how the civilization uses water, different geographic features that are located in that civilization and describe a scenario where they had to adapt, move or modify. A few students shared their writing during author's chair today and it was so great to hear their work and have them share their great ideas with their peers.

Students also worked on finishing up their second round of stories this week! They were working on including:

  • Use strong vocabulary (tier 3 words)

  • Use dialogue in their stories “I am terrified about what we are going to find in this plane”, Ms. Sera whispered.

  • Use figurative language(shaking like a leaf, as quiet as a mouse, like a deer in headlights)

  • Capital letters and punctuation ( . ? ! )

Check out these great photos of the students playing basketball this week! We ended the week with playing super fun and wild basketball where students used different objects as their basketballs such as a rubber chicken or football! It was awesome to see the teamwork that many students displayed.

Have a great weekend!
