Pink Shirt Day
Students participated in pink shirt day activities all week! Our leadership team put on a wonderful assembly, with several leadership students going to grade 1, 2 and 3 classes to share activities they had planned alongside presentations. We can always use another reminder to treat others with kindness and respect.

We also created our own kindness posters in honour of Pink Shirt Day and had a good discussion in the classroom of what we can do to show kindness.

Restart and Health
This week we learned more about accountability which is a topic we have frequently discussed. Nate and Robin shared examples of situations where students might wonder if they are accountable/responsible for the outcome and as a class we discussed them. We also started a new focus in health - social communication. We will be working on our communication skills with some mini lessons that explicitly cover topics, such as: asking questions and listening to the answers, starting a new conversation with someone unfamiliar, respectfully greeting someone and reading body language. Today we did a short round of table topics where students asked each other questions and practiced listening to the answers.

Math
We also started Area and Perimeter this week. Students did a review activity where they determined the perimeter of a given shape using rulers and string. We also discussed different math vocabulary (length, width, height) and will continue to review and explore the formulas for calculating area and perimeter.

We continued with multiplication and division and focused this week on estimation. It is important when estimating that we think about whether or not our estimate is reasonable. We had many good discussions about what makes a reasonable estimate, such as using friendly numbers and how there may be differences in answers depending which place value we choose to round to. Practicing basic facts at home would continue to help all of our students with this current math unit to improve automaticity!

We hope you all have a fabulous weekend!
