Math

In Algebra, we continued exploring solving and writing algebraic equations using letter variables. Students worked in partners to write the equations to match word problems as well as made some of their own problems to solve! Look below to see if you can solve one!

During our work on fractions, we started learning about composing and decomposing fractions and learned about the term Unit Fractions. Examples of unit fractions are 1/2, 1/4, and 1/3. We practiced adding these together to create a new fraction!

Hi Ahmed's mom! 😊

Writing/Health

Students have been working all term on writing about different health topics, this week they completed a gratitude paragraph. We discussed how taking time out of your day to think about what you are grateful for is a great strategy to support regulating your nervous system and mental health. As our year comes to end, we are spending more time discussing and exploring different strategies to help us stay regulated with the big changes of moving to a new school and ending our time at NLS. We also continued on with poetry writing and wrote poems about Totem Animals and related them to ourselves and our own traits.

Here are some students stepping us to help a classmate with her thermos. We call this one "how many kids to open a thermos" 😃

Art
After writing our animal poems, we created artwork of the animal that we had chosen. We used watercolours and line work to create our artwork!

Social Studies

We started looking at economic practices of ancient civilizations including taxation! We had a great discussion about how taxes are used today and how that process and system has evolved from the past. We will continue working on this next week and will hopefully have the opportunity to do some hands-on learning with a fun task that allows student to earn some classroom currency and then pay taxes!

Gym

Mr. Newton set up an awesome course for students to practice their balances and different types of movements! Our class rocked and we learned that almost no one looks graceful when being photographed during somersaults or log rolls

More gym photos from GaGa Ball and Freedom Frenzy!!

😎.

And some super awesome bonus extra photos if you made this far

Have a great weekend!
